The Semiblind Contour Exercise
The name of this exercise isn't too snappy, but it does provide a clue that this activity is very similar to the blind contour exercise. Start it like you would a blind contour drawing, by moving your hand slowly and keeping it synchronized with your eye. Do not look at the paper while your hand is moving, but you may stop your hand, look at the paper, and reposition the pen point if you need to.
If you do this exercise properly, you will soon be surprised at how well you will be able to make a competent line drawing. Practice with the exercise will lead you to an individual drawing style that you can use as a springboard for more adventurous drawing experiments.
